We applaud Metrolinx’ 4th quarter update report on the Ontario Line construction in North York, in being comprehensive and inclusive of the status of all parts of the program. Going forward, we request that the City give consideration to longer term impacts of the Ontario Line and TOC on Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park by undertaking Secondary Plans that would consider the population impacts, improving public realm, and infrastructure needs of the communities in light of the Ontario Line.

Bennington Heights was first settled in the 1870s by John Cudmore and Daniel Ryan, who operated successful market gardens on their properties until the area was developed in 1889.

Today, Bennington Heights has the ambience of a mid-20th century residential neighbourhood, an enclave like a more modern Wychwood Park.

Agenda items include a resolution to expand the area served by the Leaside Residents Association to include the area bounded by Eglinton Ave. E., Laird Dr., Vanderhoof Ave., and the west edge of the Don Valley.

Following the (short) annual meeting, there will be remarks from our MPP and local councillor, and a federal Candidates Meeting starting at approximately 8 p.m. Questions may be submitted ahead of time via email or in writing prior to the meeting. No questions will be taken orally from the floor.

Local residents are needed to serve on the Leaside Memorial Community Gardens Arena Board. The Board is looking for individuals with a background in law, human resources, non-profit leadership, sports development, or sports facility operation.

Mayor Olivia Chow has proposed a major change to the process of how housing is built in Toronto, one that would allow a new generation of buildings to pop up on major streets across the city.

Chow is looking to implement sweeping as-of-right zoning on Toronto’s avenues that would allow for drastic changes in the city’s built form.

Toronto’s development scene has been dominated by tall towers in recent years, but Chow’s new push to change zoning regulations could result in a more Parisian style of residential density becoming the norm in town.
